My most sincere condolences to the government and people of Jamaica as well as to the Johnson family for the loss of a statesman such as Ambassador Johnson. "Tony" as he was known, championed the best values of Caribbean democracy and represented his country with dignity whenever his prestige was needed, be it in the United States or the OAS. Writing this message not only as Viceministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, but as a proud Caribbean, I can say that the diplomatic community will greatly miss him but can be proud of the legacy that he leaves behind, carried on most outstandingly by Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith. My prayers with all.

The staff of the Permanent Mission of Jamaica in Geneva join me in extending deepest and heartfelt sympathies on the recent passing of your dear father, Ambassador the Honourable Anthony Johnson, O.J. Like others within the Foreign Service, we view his passing as a tremendous loss to our Nation. Ambassador Johnson was highly regarded and has been hailed for a truly multi-pronged contribution to Jamaica not only in the political sphere but as a seasoned statesman and diplomat and a consummate professional who possessed a sharp intellect. He consistently represented Jamaica with excellence on the international stage and was tireless in his commitment to nation-building, both in the public and private sectors. He has been described as selfless, a humanitarian, and, he will long be remembered for his sincerity and engaging personality. His indelible contribution will continue to be felt for many years to come, including through the exemplary service of his daughter, our own Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with the Honourable Minister and all the members of the bereaved family as you mourn this great loss. As you go through this very difficult period of bereavement, we encourage you to stay strong and find comfort in the wonderful memories which you shared with him during his lifetime.

On behalf of the James family, I would like to express my condolences to Aunty Pam, Charmaine, Isa, Kamina, Olivia and the rest of the Johnson family on Uncle Tonyโ€™s passing. While Jamaica has lost a public servant of impeccable character and brilliance you have lost a father and husband. Uncle Tony was also a lifelong friend to our family, and I always enjoyed spending time with him on family outings as a child and receiving his counsel on life and business as an adult. May his soul rest in peace and may you find comfort in the fond memories and in his legacy of service which spread beyond the shores of Jamaica.

I am forever indebted to the guidance and mentorship that Senator Johnson provided to myself and other KCOB. His sharp wit and educational philosophy which sought to expand on the work of PW Gibson. He would during his lectures recall and relate the values and ethos of our founder and immortalize what it means to be an alumni. May light perpetually shine on you. You inspired me to excel and grow my scholarship to myself become an educator thank you.
